This photo was taken in my guest room. I am a self taught photographer and my favorite subject is my son.Time
This was taken mid day with the blinds closed to my guest room so there was minimal outdoor light.Lighting
I really wanted this to be a magical photo that I could use for my Christmas cards. I kept outside light to a minimum and used christmas lights on my back wall. Then I turned my iphone on the flashlight mode and hid it inside the book so it would light his face and exposed my photo for that.Equipment
This was shot with my Nikon D3200 with a 50mm lens at f/1.8. No flash was used, just the light from my phone inside the book.Inspiration
I really wanted a photo that demonstrated the magic of the season and the books that go along with the Christmas holiday. It is one of my son's favorite books and is so magical itself and I wanted to express that.Editing
I did process in Photoshop. The light rays were added using the cloud rendering filters. I also added some vignette around the edges to enhance the light on his face.In my camera bag
I always carry my 50mm 1.8 nikon lens and my kit lens. I'm just starting out so that is actually all I have! I just obtained a speedlight and am working on using that more frequently as well as my Gary Fong lightsphere.Feedback
Plan it out! I had a very specific look I wanted for this photo. It just took a little preparation to get the lighting how I wanted but the most important thing was to have a plan from the beginning.
