Location
I shot this right near South Street Seaport. On the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge.Time
It was a very cold night in October of 2008, the same year I got my first DSLR a Canon XS, and I remember thinking "what the hell am I doing out at night in this cold trying to shoot the bridge". It was worth it when I saw the outcome.Lighting
I remember traveling with a tripod because I knew that if I wanted a clean shot at night the camera needed to be mounted. This was the first time I had done this so I wanted it to be done right. So I set up my cam and tripod/camera and just started taking long exposures with different apertures to see what results I got.Equipment
I used my Canon XS tripod mounted with the kit lens (18-55mm).Inspiration
I was eager to take this shot because I had just upgraded from a point and shoot that I could control manually to my first DSLR so I wanted to see what results if get from shooting from a new camera. Of course living in NYC you always have something to shoot so I went walking around at night and after leaving South Street saw the bridge and thought "let me try to catch this".Editing
I did some very minor color correction on photoshop elements. In my camera bag
I don't own a lot of equipment since I am pretty much just a weekend shooter, I don't shoot for money.Feedback
Anything shot at night needs to be tripod mounted unless you're looking for a different effect. Play with the aperture setting, use different f stops to get a different effect and see what works best for you.
