(Kneeling to take this shot inside.) Famed author Jack London used his literary works to fund his passion for organic farming and agricultural innovation. Among his most inspired projects, he designed and built an ingenious piggery in 1915. Of round design, a sow and her piglets had their own apartment with a sun porch and one man could care for 200 pigs. Competing farmers of the day mockingly dubbed his invention "The Pig Palace". Today, Jack London is credited for having strengthened the U.S. breed and introducing sanitary conditions to the entire hog industry.
