Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at Moraine Lake in the Valley of the 10 Peaks; it is a glacially-fed lake in Banff National Park, just outside the Village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. This is one of my favorite places to visit. Fun fact > Moraine Lake was featured on the reverse side of the 1969 and 1979 issues of the Canadian twenty dollar bill.Time
I was visiting the park with my awesome wife, she had taken me their for a weekend get away for my Birthday, which was my first outing with my new equipment. I had just upgraded form using an Olympus E510 to a Nikon D7100. I am completely self taught photographer so every outing is new learning experience. This shot was taken on June 06, 2014 around 11:30 am (Mst).Lighting
It was a Beautiful sunny morning, with few clouds and very slight breeze. I was waiting hoping for a few more clouds to appear so i could capture a more dramatic look, other than adjusting exposure comp. nothing else.Equipment
I shot this using a Nikon D7100 with a VR 18-140mm Lens at f3.5-5.6, using a mono-pod to steady.Inspiration
The pure majesty of the mountains, and Moraine Lake with its deep aqua blue color is is awe inspiring. We love to visit here. This particular weekend was unique in the fact that by June the ice and snow has for the most part melted. When we arrived and saw that there was still quite a bit of ice and snow was cool to see. Hiking to the top of one of the surrounding rock piles to get a better view was worth it. There is a sign just out side of Radium BC as you enter the town that reads " The Mountains Shall Bring Peace to the People" sitting on top of this peak with a warm sun and slight breeze taking in this view, i believe this statement to be true.Editing
I shoot in Raw format so I used Photoshop to develop and brighten some of the dark shadows.In my camera bag
Being an amateur I don't have a lot, much to my chagrin. As i mentioned i had just purchased a new Nikon D7100. To go along with it i have a Nikor 18-140mm lens as my all purpose for now. I all so purchased a Sigma-DG 150-500mm lens, as i love to venture out and do mostly nature photography. I all so have a polarized filter for 18-140mm. I have an Olympus E510 as a backup.Feedback
If you are going to be up in this area, be prepared for quick weather changes, and dress accordingly. There is always approximately a 10 degree difference in Temp(Cooler) here than in town at lower elevation. I think best time to shoot is early morning. The sunrise and sunset times change from month to month. In August you still have full daylight as late as pm. Enjoy the View.
