Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was captured in Arizona at my home studio. I’m 100% self educated photographer and was putting a brand new lens through its paces.Time
I captured this image sometime around mid day as I was deliberately using the strong Arizona sunlight diffused through the windows as my key lighting.Lighting
The Arizona sun when diffused through doors and windows can become a lighting set up I couldn’t afford with the largest of budgets. A lot of times are use an open window reflectors and silk sheets to create this gentle light.Equipment
For this photo in particular I was using my Nikon camera handheld with a 50 mm 1.4 lens. This session I was deliberately pushing my camera and new lens to the limits by handholding and seeing what exactly I can accomplish with my equipment.Inspiration
For inspiration I have course look at all the great photographers throughout history but honestly during a photo shoot I do not want a shot list or an inspiration sheet to look off of. I prefer to stay in the moment and trust my gut. Take my time and see what I can find.Editing
I’m not a fan of a lot of heavy post processing and try not to use it in my work. For this photo I kept it to the basics of slight exposure contrast dodging and burning. In my camera bag
I typically have a pelican box full of lenses, macro tubes, filters and strobes. I always have a handful of prime lenses that I go to. I almost always have my 20, 35, 50, and 85 mm prime lenses.Feedback
For boudoir photography the key is trust. If your subject does not feel comfortable and trust you there is no angle or processing you can use to fix it. You’ll be able to see it in their face, no matter how comfortable of the position or relaxing the atmosphere is if there’s no trust between the photographer and the model it will show.
