This photo was taken of Juno award winner Karl Wolf for his album Finally Free in Avonmore, Ontario at a friends parents farm.Time
It was around 2pm and we had been getting severely heavy rain ALL DAY! We were on a very tight timeline to shoot the album and this was our only opportunity. It rained right up until the moment we both stepped out of our vehicles. Until then I was having a heart attack.Lighting
This was a pretty neat and simple set up. The Moon looking light in the sky is actually my Alien Bee 800 being held up by my wife.Equipment
Canon 60D and a Sigma 10-20mm. Shot at 1/250th, f4 I believe. ISO 100. Lit using one AB800 held by my wife right where you see what appears to be the moon. Lights were fired with Paul C. Buff's Cyber Syncs.Inspiration
We wanted a moody feel, almost like a spotlight or alien vibe. The light was held high facing down and shot bare to get some great contrast. Being that he is a performer I also wanted to place on the fact that celebrities are always on, in the middle of a field you can still be in a spotlight. There is also a song on the album called U.F.O and we wanted to play on that as well. That is why I slight over exposed the subject as well.Editing
Oh Yeah. This photo has the works really. First and most important is cloning out my wife, light and stand. I also had to get rid of some wires and poles in the background. Next was some tone curves to adjust contrast and then another layer to exaggerate the spotlight effect. I then dis a little sharpening and finally the color work using various techniques. In my camera bag
Canon 60D, Canon 50mm 1.8, Sigma 10-20mm and my kit lens. I don't spend a lot on gear.Feedback
Check out the lighting info above and do some photoshop tutorials. This is a one light shot and can be pulled off pretty easy. Grab a speedlight, stick it on a light stand you are good to go! Have fun and keep on shooting!! You can find more info and more work on my website at http://framedphotography.ca, on Facebook or on ViewBug! Any questions or comment feel free to shoot me a message.
