The photo is taken near our apartment in Umeå. The area where this particular flower lived is basically your typical aparment project. Concrete and bricks as far as the eye can see.But just outside there are some nice trees and lots of wild flowers. So I didn't have to go far to get this photo.Time
The photo is taken one summer evening when the rain had just stopped and the sun was low enough to give some really good light.Lighting
The evening light was really god and allowed met to use a f5 aperture combined with 1/100 shutterspeed (ISO:640). Since there was some wind I had to hold the stem with one hand for stability and shoot with the other.Equipment
I used my Sony A99 with a Tamron 28-75, 2,8 lens.Inspiration
I had been wanting to shoot wet flowers for a while, and usually did so with a spray bottle of water. With small children at home it's not the easiest thing to just leave the house when the timing is good outside. But this time there had been a massive rain and as soon as it stopped, the sunset was starting. SoI found some different flowers but these blue bells really caught my eye. The blue was a really good match with the light and therefore I played around with the flowers for a while.Editing
My fingers, which I had to use to hold the stem, was in the original photo, so it's cropped to about 50 percent of the original size in ACR. There, after adjusting the levels, I also made the color temperature colder so the blue would dominate not just the flower, but also the background. After that I added a little "Glamour glow" in Color efex pro to make it a little "dreamier" and then sharpened it .In my camera bag
Recently I have my Sony RX100 in my pocket. Easy to carry and awesome quality. But for more specific projects I have my Sony A99 with the Tamron 28-75, f2,8 in the bag. I also take my Tamron 70-200, f2,8 when I think that might come in hand (adds a lot of weight so it's not used very often.Feedback
Light is everything. You can take a photo of a flower any time you want, but scope out certain areas with many different flowers and go there when you see a light you like. And don't just focus on the flower. Take some time to see what's in the background. A brick wall will never create a soft and mysterious mood, so make sure there's something to work with when it comes time to taking the photo. Also, don't forget mosquito repellent. My arms and neck was absolutely destroyed after 20 minutes since I forgot it.
