Behind The Lens

Location

In a remote Balinese village where life evolves around the river and its waterfall.

Time

Late afternoon.

Lighting

The waterfall produced a deep shade which meant I had to bump my ISO more than i usually like.

Equipment

It was impossible to use anything other than a zoom lens as I was standing in the middle of the river and trying to not get swept away by the strong current

Inspiration

I went to this village wanting to capture the children playing in the waterfall which I did, but before we actually started, I saw this father and his naked boy fishing..it just looked so authentic. It reminded me of the primitive hunters. I immediately zoomed in and started shooting away. I took many photos of them but I like this one because they look so intense...completely focused on their prey.

Editing

Bumped up contrast and clarity.

In my camera bag

A 50mm 1.4 prime, a zoom, an ultra-wide for landscapes, a few ND filters such as a 3-stop and a 10-stop, a CPL, cleaning clothes and a spray for my filters, a timer and a remote release.

Feedback

Only that when you travel somewhere, don't just focus on the well known touristy locations. Hire a local to take you to less known areas..you won't be disappointed.
