Location
Squassux Landing Marina, Bellport, New YorkTime
I arrived around an hour before sunrise and walked around for a while experimenting with different angles and docks.Lighting
I just happened to be at the right place at the right time as the sun became centered in the image.Equipment
This was taken with a Nikon D3200 on a tripod with a Nikor 18/35mm lens.Inspiration
It's easy to forget you live on an island when it's 120 miles long. From the first day I had my drivers license I spent many, many hours and drove many, many miles to find scenic locations to pass the time. 30 years later it is still a passion of mine. This location was a recent find even after living on Long Island for 46 years of my life.Editing
This was a 4 shot HDR and the geese were brushed in from one of those four shots. Processed on Corel Paintshop Pro X6.In my camera bag
Nikon D7000, Nikon D3200, 18/55mm lens, 55/200mm lens, 35mm prime lens, numerous ND filters, extra batteries, flashlights, microfiber clothes.... Come to think of it, I need a bigger bag.Feedback
Due to really obscure sleep habits I tend to wake up very early(hours before sunrise). I would much rather grab my gear, take a ride and find someplace to watch the sun come up, than try to force myself back to sleep. I do my research before I head out so I at least have some idea where I'm going to head. I spend quite a bit of time on satellite images following the coastline while looking for jetties and docks facing the sunrise.
