Behind The Lens
Location
The photo was taken at Banff National Park in Alberta. It was just a typical glacier waterfall that is accessible a few hundred yards off of a park road.Time
I took the shot around 10 AM; the morning light was perfect, and the cold mist instantly hit my face and I knew that it was a special placeLighting
The lighting was almost perfect. With minimal setting adjustments, I was able to take a perfectly balanced photo. The sun was still behind the mountains, but there was enough ambient light that shadows were not an issue.Equipment
I used a Canon rebel T1i with a standard 18-55mm kit lens. There wasn't enough space for a tripod on this trip, so I used a nearby rock to rest the camera on.Inspiration
I walked down the trail, and immediately the cool mist hit me, and woke me up! It was so refreshing, but still a little bit cold, so I continued on, knowing that there had to be a waterfall at the end of the trail. We kept walking, and the sound of rushing water got louder and louder. When I saw it, I pulled out my camera, and took an undisturbed photo before anyone else could get there, and this was the result.Editing
I just normally bump up the contrast, and sharpen the image a bit.In my camera bag
I now carry a Canon T4i, with a 18-135 STM, a Canon 200mm F2.8L, and a Tokina 11-16 F2.8 wide angle. I have a Fotopro tripod that always travels with me (I love it!)Feedback
Just be patient! Take your time getting to know what the settings on your camera do, and then if you have time- fool around with them! This one looks ok, maybe slow down the shutter speed, bump up the lighting a bit.. Just have fun, and I guarentee your photos will turn out awesome!
