Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in a room in Terceira island, Azores. It gave me some pleasure and satisfaction and also, but no less important, fun.

Time

After lunch, i went into a store to buy some paints. After that, i asked some friends to help, to serve as models. At 4 pm i started to paint their faces, each with a flag of one of the six founding countries of the European Union. Were nearly 2 hours of painting. After all this work, i finally took the picture. I tried several different ways and angles, but this one was the best choice in my opinion.

Lighting

I wanted this image to be natural, so I used the light from outside the window to make the image look more natural, making it beautiful, giving a feeling of peace, giving a taste of what the European Union is.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 5D Mark 3, with an 24-105 mm f/4 lens. I did not use a tripod, i climbed up on a table and tried to do the best i could. I neither used flash, because i used the light from outside the window.

Inspiration

This photo was inspired by a competition launched by the European Commission ('The European Story' photo competition on the European Commission Facebook page). In which i won the third place.

Editing

I just made a small adjustment to the light and contrast of the photo in order to look more beautiful and simple.

In my camera bag

Whenever i go out, i carry with me a Canon 5D Mark 3 and a 24-105 lens, just to be prepared for any occasion. Just for some more crafted photo, i carry a flash and tripod with me.

Feedback

For those who want to make a photo like this, i advise you to find some good models, a good room with a good light input and, of course, good paints.
