Location
This was taken in Austria. We noticed this castle from the freeway and it was a bit hard to find but well worth the effort. After going through the little town, we got lost but knew roughly the the direction of the castle. I hope that it will be on the tourist map in the future, as it's such a one off type of castle, which hardly anyone knowsTime
During late afternoon.Lighting
I was just lucky it turned out as it did, but there needed to be a bit of an alteration when I saw the shot on my computer. The lighting was OK but it lacked that WOW factor.Equipment
My camera was Nikon D7000. Just a hand held shot. I can't quite remember the settings I used on the day.Inspiration
The castle was shut for renovations and we weren't allowed inside to take photos, but I couldn't resist taking some outside shots. We were really lucky to get this close to the castle as there wasn't any entry due to renovations.Editing
The sky was very bland in the original photo, so I replaced it with one of my sky collection photos which I take a lot of so that they can be used to a better effect in other photos. This sky was actually taken from my own street back at home. I felt that it suited this castle photo, which brought out similar color effects. It would be quite rare to have the opportunity to be in such a wonderful location and have the sky to suit the occasion. In my camera bag
I mostly just take my camera and tripod.Feedback
Don't be afraid to change the sky in your photos if it isn't right on the day of the shoot. You might take a reasonable shot of a subject but be critical when you look at it in detail. There are many parts of a photo that can be revised to make a more interesting overall composition.
