Very creative shot. The pipes feel like popping out of the image.

Behind The Lens

Location

Kröller-Müller Museum in the Netherlands, situated in a vast park. After exiting the museum there is a grass verge which has modern art sculptures, of which my picture is one.

Time

This was shot at around 14:45

Lighting

The sculpture is in a clear area, and the sun was strong even in the late afternoon. I took time in choosing the view through the pipes to get one that had an interesting lighting situation. Having the sun low, gave the pipes a more 3D look.

Equipment

This was hand held. I used my Nikon Coolpix S9100 ISO160 1/40sec at f3.5 focal length 4.5mm

Inspiration

I love to create abstract pictures from sculptures, putting my take on the art. The mixture of the straight lines and the circles, with the bending of the image through the focal length gave the image a feel of movement.

Editing

This is as shot.

In my camera bag

I normally use a Canon EOS 1D X with either a 70-200 f2.8 or the 24-70 f2.8. I have several filters for macro shooting and two Speedlight 550EX flashlights. My second body is a Canon EOS 1Ds MkII. A Canon 2x extender.

Feedback

Once you have chosen the subject I find it important to walk around to see if there is a better view than the first one that attracted my attention. I always keep in mind the concept of trying both landscape and portrait just to see if it enhances the picture. If you have the time, then taking the picture in different lighting conditions can make or break the final image.
