Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Black Bayou National Wildlife Refuge in Monroe, Louisiana.

Time

It was taken on an early December morning as the sun was coming up.

Lighting

I had gone out early to hopefully catch some good sunrise photos. When I arrived, the lake was covered in fog and I just started shooting as the sun was coming up. The combination of the sunrise light and fog made for an excellent atmosphere!

Equipment

Sony Alpha 55 with a Sony 18-250 mm lens. No tripod, no flash.

Inspiration

The whole atmosphere of the lake with the sun and fog was just wonderful. I shot many great photos that morning but this was one of my favorites.

Editing

I always shoot raw so I have to always do a little of post-processing. On this particular one, I mainly just sharpened a little and added a small bit of contrast & detail.

In my camera bag

Sony Alpha 55, Sony 18-250mm lens, Sony 50mm lens, Sony 70-300mm lens, Several memory cards, extra batteries, 2 flashes, remote flash cord, Sony Cybershot DSC HX100v, battery charger.

Feedback

Once you have any idea in your head, just be persistent in trying to get the right conditions for that shot. Get up early before the sun comes up to be in your location as it's coming up. Luck also plays a big factor in getting fog as it's so hard to predict.
