This photo was taken in central Pennsylvania in my own backyard. I was fortunate enough to find this beautiful gray tree frog hanging out on a stem.Time
I took this photograph in the evening, sometime after 5pm.Lighting
I shot this image in the shade during the golden hour. The lighting was soft, but still bright enough to capture the amazing details on this little frog.Equipment
I used a Canon 60D with a 18-135 mm lens, zoomed in all the way to 135 mm. No additional equipment was needed.Inspiration
I love amphibians. When I saw this frog, I ran into the house to grab my camera to capture this beauty living right in my backyard. I was surprised to see it had orange coloring on its inner legs and was happy to have that show in the photo.Editing
I didn't do a lot of post-processing on this image because I got the proper settings straight out of the camera. I did adjust the contrast, curves, and saturation of the image in Lightroom to make it pop.In my camera bag
-Canon 60D -18-135mm lens -60mm macro lens - mm lens -lens filters -external flash -batteries -cleaning equipment -shutter release button -rainguardFeedback
My biggest advice on this type of photography is patience. I needed to be still and not make sudden movements so I wouldn't startle the frog. Use the light meter in the camera appropriately, doing test shots to make sure exposure is correct. I shot this at a relatively slow shutter speed of 1/50 sec., so stillness again was key. A tripod probably would have helped but I didn't want to miss this opportunity trying to set it up.
