Location
This photo was taken in Brooklyn Bridge Park, looking back towards Manhattan.Time
This photo was taken around 9:30 PM, well past sunset and blue hour.Lighting
No artificial light was used.Equipment
I took this photo with a Nikon D7000 with a Nikon 18-200 lens. For this 86 second exposure, i used a tripod and shutter release.Inspiration
Living in New York City, this has been one of my favorite spots. There are so many different interesting compositions to shoot with the bridges, the skyline and the river. Everything came together nicely on this one (but it was certainly not my first attempt from this location).Editing
I edited this photo in Adobe Lightroom, applying primarily exposure and contrast adjustments as well as selective editing to certain areas. In my camera bag
I always have my camera, which is now a Sony a7r, in the bag, along with a host of lenses. I also keep my ND filters from Lee (both the Big Stopper and Little Stopper) and some accessories (like my shutter release, spare batteries and lens cloths) in there as well. When I go out shooting, I will usually bring a tripod, too.Feedback
Try different angles, different focal lengths and then, once you've identified a strong composisition, try different exposures. While you may want to blend multiple exposures together, when shooting long exposures at night, I always try to take a number of shots at different exposure lengths because they almost always look differently on the computer than on the back of the camera. In addition, with the quality of the software today (and especially with a camera like the Sony a7r) you can recover so much information from the highlights and the shadows.
