Location
This photo was taken at a place called the Children’s Pool in La Jolla, California. In the past several decades, it has been overtaken by seals and sea lions. I walked past some just to set up this image.Time
This was a morning sunrise photo.Lighting
I caught a lucky break when the bird in the picture landed on the rock. It only moved a little during the long exposure so I was able to capture it. I think it’s what gives interest to the image.Equipment
At the time, I was using one of the first dslr from Nikon (a D50), but I now have upgraded. 55mm, f14, 30 sec., iso200.Inspiration
I wa very much into long exposure photography and wanted to capture the smooth motion of the water.Editing
I shook RAW so yes, there is always post processing involved in my photos. In my camera bag
My trusty 70-200mm for portraits and 15-30mm for landscapes.Feedback
I tend to rush things only because I don’t want to lose the light quality especially if it’s taken during sunrise and sunset. My advice is to slow down and take your time. Pre-planning is always helpful. Scout your location and know when and where the sun will be.
