Location
I took the photos at home, sitting at a table in my dining room.Time
I took the shots in the early evening, just hanging out with the family.Lighting
I used ambient room lighting, 5 fluorescent hanging lights, just in front and above my head.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon Powershot G12 set at Aperture: f/2.8, ISO: 800, and Exposure: 1/20. I used the flip screen to ensure my self-portrait was accurately framed. No flash, only ambient room light.Inspiration
This was not planned at all, I was simply sitting at the table playing with my camera and I got an idea for a photoshop selfie. I actually pictured the finished image in my head then began shooting the unique hand poses using the lights I had.Editing
Yes, I finished this in Photoshop CS6, combining the various hand shots, merged into the head, then added some eyebrows using various brushes, I added drop shadows, then did some final coloring in Lightroom. In my camera bag
Canon EOS-7D, Canon G12, various Canon EOS lenses including a wide-angle lens, a macro lens, a 300mm lens, an 85mm lens, a 25mm, lens cleaning materials, remote shutter control, spare memory cards, carbon-fiber tripod, camera strap, and Cannon flash.Feedback
Let your mind run wild, think outside the box, hone your photoshop skills, look at work by others to get the creative juices flowing. I specialize in creating unusual images that can't be found in everyday life. If you can think of it, you can create it in Photoshop. There are tons of tutorial online for free, so there's no reason not to become proficient in this application. All you need is an active imagination and you're all set.
