Location
The photo was taken on my friend's farm not far out of town. I am a self taught photographer, learning with every photo I take and loving every moment of it.Time
My goal was to take golden hour photos with the sunset as my background. I started at 3pm to determine which angles work best, as golden hour has no defined duration and finished just before sunset.Lighting
The contrast during golden hour is less than in the middle of the day, so shadows aren't very dark and highlights won't be overexposed. The golden hour sun is very desirable as it enhances the colours of the scene.Equipment
I own a Canon EOS 500D and used an 18-200mm f/3.5 lens.Inspiration
My inspiration was to perceive the relationship and bond between human and animal. I wanted to capture a special moment that my friend would cherish for years to come.Editing
I enhanced the colours and brightened up the subject by adjusting the curves. In my camera bag
I always carry my Canon 18-200mm IS f/3.5 lens on my Canon EOS 500D body, because at one moment you could be shooting a wide-angle landscape and the next moment you can quickly zoom in to take a photo of a bird in a tree. It allows me to travel light and not waste time changing lenses.Feedback
Always plan ahead and be prepared for the different colours and situations as the daylight conditions change. The red and orange colours are great for landscapes. The possibilities for silhouettes, shadows, moody clouds and lens flares are endless. Use a wide aperture to get a bokeh effect, but remember to shoot fast as the scene changes quickly.
