Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken on the Rail Station very close to San Antonio Texas Downtown, in the corner of E Commerce Ave & Hoefgen Ave.

Time

It was probably around 5:00PM

Lighting

I had recently attended an HDR workshop in Monterrey provided by Grupo FotoFusión and practicing I tried to créate a good HDR of this good looking old machine. I was parked and seating in my car and move the drivers window to a certain hight in order to be able to rest my camera on the edge of the glass and used it as a trípode to stabilize my three HDR shots! Took three pictures at ISO 100, FL 18mm, f/5.6 and the exposure speed was braketed by two stops each photo!!!

Equipment

This one was taken with my forst DSLR Nikon D3100 and with the kit lens 18-55 VR. I should have use a tripode but did not had one in hand so I restes the camera and the car window...

Inspiration

The magnificente machine was enough to capture my attention!!! It was an excellent oportunista to try to créate an HDR since many parts of the machine were drken by shadows and other parts were covered with light!

Editing

Yes of course, I edited the three digital files in a Lightroom 3 plug-inn from Nik FX HDR Software!

In my camera bag

Now my passion for photography has grown.. and I have made efforts to improve my equipment... I use a Nikon D610 and a Nikon D700 and normally use the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 and a Nikon 70-300mm VR... I have a Nikon SB-700 Speedlight. I am eager to get a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 but maybe I will consider buying a used Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 D...

Feedback

Look for objects or landscapes in which there is a high dinamic range of light and try this HDR technique to discover how beautifully the light compensation results in a well balanced photo!!! See as many tutorials you can in the internet and read about the different techniques and tips a bailable to créate different pictures!!!
