Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on one of my many visits back to Christchurch NZ in the beautiful botanical gardens in the heart of the city

Time

We had our grandchildren for the day and always enjoyed taking the to the gardens for a picnic lunch and I took this shot around midday.

Lighting

One thing I do remember is that the weather was overcast and we nearly call the day off because of it.

Equipment

I was using my canon 400D at the time as I was waiting to take delivery of my new camera. i didn't use a flash as I wanted it to look as natural as posable and i was also using a monopod which I find very handy.

Inspiration

I just love capturing Gods amazing creation and the roses were putting on a great show

Editing

Very minimal editing was done just some light adjustments, sharpening and intensified the colours a little.

In my camera bag

Now I have a canon 70D. 50mm, 100mm, 18-200mm lenses, some extension tubes 4 spare batteries (I know it is overkill on the batteries but I have been caught out before) 3X16gb SD cards Flash/ring flash sundry cleaning cloths etc a monopod and a tripod in the boot of the car as back up and a couple of muesli bars.

Feedback

Im a bit of a hit and miss photographer, I don't consider myself to be very knowledgable. On the day I took this shot I was planning on taking Photos of bird life and saw that the Roses were out and changed my plans. I think being persistent and don't be scared to take a 100 shots to get the right one. I filled up 2x16gb cards just on roses on this day.
