Behind The Lens
Location
On my first wedding anniversary, I ended up escorting my mother-in-law to her home country of the Philippines. During our stay there, we traveled all over Batangas. I managed to snap this photograph while driving through a small village outside of Batangas City.Time
This image was captured in the middle of the day. It was hot and sticky outside, but from the inside of the air conditioned car, it was almost like a nice spring day when you could see the beautiful sky.Lighting
The lighting in this image was pretty straight forward. I had very little time to adjust for lighting or scenery while moving at about 50 miles per hour, so I set the camera to shutter priority and prayed to get a good shot even through a (moving) car window.Equipment
I shot this image with a Nikon D40 and 55mm lens. No other equipment was used as I was shooting on the fly.Inspiration
I was really moved by the stark contrast of the image as soon as I saw it. The concept of heaven meeting earth came to mind as well as the emotion evoked when you see this gorgeous happy cloud spotted sky pressed up against this cemetery. The poverty and simplicity of the cemetery speak to the humble nature of the Philippines that I experienced and the sky speaks to the unending happiness emotional perseverance of the same Filipino culture.Editing
This image has had very little post-processing. The noise and grain are natural to the image based on the way that I was required to shoot in order to capture it. I think the straight forward visual speaks for itself. In my camera bag
I normally carry at least 2 bodies. My favorites are my Nikon D5100 and Nikon 3300. I also carry a 15-85 mm zoom lens, a 55-200 mm zoom lens, and a 90 mm lens. When I photograph large scale events, I also bring along speed-light.Feedback
