Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Doolin, Co. Clare, Ireland. We were on a family holiday there for a week where we visited the local attractions such as the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, The Aran Islands etc. All week we had beautiful weather except for this day where a storm raged in from the Atlantic and it was wild.

Time

This was late in the evening. The Storm made things look like it was much later though. I applied a neutral filter so I could slow down the shutter speed which darkened the scene a little more also.

Lighting

The lighting was poor and everything was grey in colour. I wanted to try slow down the water to try and get a contrast to the cloud colour but they look similar but the movement in the cloud can be seen which is nice.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 1100d with a 18-135mm lens and a tripod

Inspiration

The storm was coming in fast and the clouds were travelling very fast so I wanted to try and capture the movement.

Editing

The image is a jpeg so just changed the colour slightly and increased the contrast to give the clouds more definition.

In my camera bag

I have very little as I am only beginning. There is a 18-55 lens and some neutral density filters which I am experimenting with and a tripod.

Feedback

You have to have a tripod as it was very windy and also to capture the water flow. If I was doing it again I would have had more weight on the tripod as there is blurring but there will be plenty more chances to try as Ireland has plenty of wind and rain!
