Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my bedroom with the lights turned off and just a candle lit.

Time

It was evening, around 8pm I think

Lighting

My Granddaughter got some beautiful flowers for her 16th birthday and I wanted to capture the beauty and delicate layers of petals on this rose. I decided to use candle light to give it a warm, romantic feeling. I love the richness of the tones that candle light brings.

Equipment

I used my Canon EOS 5D Mark III camera with a wide angle 24mm 1:1.4 lens. No tripod.

Inspiration

The beauty of the flowers inspired me to take this photo. With the cold weather and winter coming on, seeing this beauty just warms my heart and makes me want to capture the moment so I can reflect and remember that Spring will be back soon!

Editing

I didn't have to do too much post processing with this one. Maybe just adjust the highlights and contrast a little. I usually bring the clarity up some, and de-noise it so it won't be grainy due to higher ISO settings.

In my camera bag

I carry my camera and Canon lenses, 24 mm 1:1.4, 75-300 mm, 1:4-5.6, .35mm 1.1 ft, Rokinon 14 mm 1:2.8 manuel focus lens, along with an extra battery and charger, cleaning cloths and lens cleaner, a rain cover, and any miscellaneous items that I might have. Depending on what I'm shooting, if I have to carry my camera bag too far and don't need all of the lenses, I leave them at home in a separate case to lighten the load!

Feedback

Light is magic! Experiment with light. When I was taking these pictures I didn't think they were any good. But when I pulled them up on my computer, I was pleasantly surprised! It's amazing what lighting can do, even to the simplest of things. Turn out the lights. Use a small flashlight, candle, string lights, you name it! Snap away! You just might be pleasantly surprised!
