Location
In my garden, during rainy season. They were doing the rounds at various trees.Time
In the afternoon while checking out my fruit.Lighting
The diffuse light of a cloudy day is often less harsh than bright sunshine. September is usually quite rainy in the Cordillera Central so plenty of that.Equipment
A manual Tamron 300 f/2.8 with a Lithuanian adapter providing at least aperture info. The Nikon 800E for good resolution.Inspiration
Luckily the camera wasn't far when I saw the birds doing the rounds. And, even luckier, it happened on a saturday. The light was perfect and I just hoped to focus fast and exact enough. Green against green was very beautiful. I have some with flowers but they distract from the pure green female birds.Editing
Cropped and eliminated a bit of a branch. In my camera bag
Well, in the garden I usually have a macro and a tele ready, tele on the camera to be quick. These days that would be the 200-400 for convenience. The D800E is nice if you want to be flexible. It goes without saying that I would take totally different things to town or to a sports event.Feedback
Be patient observe and be conscious of the noises of your environment. You often hear hummingbirds before you see them. This one, Cynanthus canivetii (Esmeralda Tijereta) has a particular call which is similar to a gecko. And best go alone or with a friend who likes nature as much as you do.
