Location
The photo was taken at RSPB Eldernel in Cambridgeshire. It was quite a windy day and I’d been there since early morning and virtually nothing was flying. Although I did capture a great shot of a Red Kite circling around looking for its next meal.Time
It was getting colder and about 3.30 in the afternoon and spotted this Tawny Owl in its spy hole in a trunk of a tree. I waited until it moved up slightly in the hole then managed to get the shot.Lighting
The lighting wasn’t great and getting later in the day so hoped to get a decent shot.Equipment
My trusty Sony a7iii and Sony 200-600 lens didn’t let me down.Inspiration
I was hoping to get a shot of an owl in its own environment rather a captured one in a zoo et .Editing
The only post processing was to crop, adjust the exposure and sharpen slightly. In my camera bag
I tend to go out shooting with as little equipment as possible as Sony full frame gear is heavy especially if you’re lugging it across the countryside.Feedback
Go out with the best suited gear you have for what you’re trying to achieve, be patient and be prepared to make more than one trip to achieve your goal.
