Behind The Lens

Location

In the mountains on a remote track in Matagalpa. I can't be 100% sure whether we were already in Jinotega. My friend was driving an open ol jeep so it was easy to spot bird, if I wasn't busy holding on.

Time

about 2 pm, it was a pretty grey day so it didn't make a big difference

Lighting

As provided by nature. Grey and diffuse with the odd shower.

Equipment

A Nikon D500 and a heavy tele. A 25 year old Wrangler to get there.

Inspiration

It was mainly about the cloudforest, magic atmosphere ( look for the jeep in my gallery) and a really remote trip. Naturally, I kept looking for bids an I saw the hawk from about 100m.

Editing

I cropped the original photo portrait- like, just to leave out the yellow feet in green leaves.. Then I applied a vignette .

In my camera bag

A heavy tele for birds if there is a chance to spot them, my beloved 40 year old 18mm and some other landscape lens. If the car carries the stuff, also my 200-400 Zoom for insects.

Feedback

Don't get dissuaded by a grey day. Make the best of the atmosphere.. and keep your eyes open. And last but not least... these days you need a permit to take photos with a tele in Nicaragua. Be careful.
