While at the Palmitos Park in San Bartolomé de Tirajana (Maspalomas - Gran Canaria) the bird show with free flying birds were cancelled due to high winds. The temperature was about 40 degrees Celcious and with high winds, blowing dust and small leaves through the trees.
We were not fond of the long walk up the mountain to the flight site just to be told things were cancelled. However, the fact that things got cancelled due to the wellbeing of the birds was something that I appreciated. It was way more important that the birds wasnt hurt (the flight would have been completely uncontrollable for the birds in the high winds) than some tourists seeking to be entertained.
The keepers however showed this beautiful eagle and were very patient with the photographer shooting several hundred rapid photos. I would have preferred to be standing on one leg on top of a sleeping lion on the african savanna...while finding this eagle in the viewfinder...but despite this, it was very fascinating to be able to get this close to such a bird.
The bird display I experienced at a previous stay was also something that can be recommended. The birds fly around in the valley and at times does not return for days. However when they return to the arm of the keeper it is inspiring to see due to the speed and elegance of these birds.

Thanks Lonnie, it is a photo I am very happy about and not because of me photographing an eagle but simply due to the luck involved (Getting to photograph it up close) and that this specific eagle, in my eyes at least, is flaweless in its feathers and has this raw look. 😊

Thanks Timo! Very pleased you like the photo. I had the luck to get the opportunity of getting very close to the bird and take a lot of photos of it in different positions and postures. The rest is simply the natural beauty of the Eagle itself😊.
