Behind The Lens

Location

Then photo was taken in Dierenpark Amersfoort (zoo). Through a glass window.

Time

September 23, 2021 at 14.23 h

Lighting

No special lighting was used, only daylight.

Equipment

Canon EOS 80D Tamron SP 150-600 mm Monopod

Inspiration

Monkeys and primates and big cats are my favorite subject. I love watching interaction between animals. This affection you can see is so beautiful!

Editing

There was bit of a fence visible. I edited that away. Colors etc. are not changed.

In my camera bag

Now, anno 2022: Canon EOS 80D, Tamron SP 150-600 mm, TAMRON 16-300 mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD B016, Close-Up filters Multi Coated Glass 4 Piece, Filter Kit Spare, 3 extension tubes, Teleconverter x2, Spare memory card and batteries, a monopod when I take my 150-600 mm lens. Tripod when I go for macro and/or close-ups for flowers.

Feedback

Take your time when you go to a zoo. Go alone, or with other photographers. You have to concentrate on these animals to be able to shoot at the right moment. Before you go, try to learn about the behavior of the animal you want to shoot. This gives you a better chance to predict how they react. In case of primates: don't stare in their face. Don't smile at them. Both are signs of aggression and or fear. If you want to connect with a primate, simply hide behind your camera.
