Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Northern edge of San Francisco Bay in the town of Sausalito.

Time

The capture took place in the late afternoon.

Lighting

It was a perfectly cloudy day that provided an opportunity to capture the silvery tones that are throughout the photograph.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D5600 with a 35 mm prime lens.

Inspiration

Often there is beautiful silver light as the result of the marine layer that enters the SF Bay. That day was no exception. I was taken by the edges and angles of the old architecture. This is an abandoned middle defense battery overlooking the entrance of the San Francisco Bay.

Editing

I fine tuned the image to ensure the contrast, tonality, and shadows were as balanced as possible.

In my camera bag

I usually bring my 18-55 kit lens as a back up and depend on my 35mm prime lens to capture perfect landscapes with my Nikon.

Feedback

Make a habit of returning to the same spot over and over again. Try arriving at different times of the day. The light will be different on each visit. This will allow you to compare and contrast the work you produce over a wide range of conditions. Most importantly take the time to get to know the light!
