The 2009 Victorian bushfires also called Black Saturday, were more than 400 bushfires that started in Victoria, Australia on February 7, 2009. The fires caused Australia's highest ever loss of life from a bushfire., and police say that 173 people died, and 100 people were taken to hospitals with bad burns. [From Wikipedia] These photos were taken in the KInglake area, 60kms NE of Melbourne. I took some HDR photos of the burnt remains of trees, and then by some mischance, the in camera processing messed up ("the magic") resulting in this image. Later, I edited in the colour, etc. I have been able to recreate some of the effect in photoshop using layers with different opacities.
