One of the few last "Baquets" of Charleroi, considered by many as a symbol of the Belgian industrialization in the 19th century.
This one, named "Les deux Soeurs" (the two sisters) was an iron one and was build in 1912 in Willebroek (Belgian Flanders).
This inland boat navigation (64 ft long x 6.5 ft large...)- not motorized - was exclusively intended to navigate on the former canal Charleroi-Bruxelles and could load...70tons of goods.
Current barges measures 426 ft long on 26 ft large and can load... 3000 tons of goods (!)
