Location
This photo was taken of Bove Island near Carcross, Southern Lakes, Yukon Territories, Canada located 94 KM north of Skagway along the Southern Klondike Highway.Time
This photo is one of the highlights of an adventurous 176 KM drive from Skagway, AK to Whitehorse, Yukon. It was early afternoon on a beautifully bright autumn day in September, 2014.Lighting
The natural lighting was perfect, with only very light streaks of cloud cover. Weather can often be the most important factor. This day was "prefect".Equipment
It was shot with a Nikon D3100, using the stock AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G lens on a tripod.Inspiration
This trip was filled with breathtaking sights around every corner, but the scenery at Bove Island was spectacular! From the lookout, perched on a rocky ridge, one can enjoy views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Mountains like Mount Conrad, Nares Mountain and Lime Mountain. The bright fall colors with deep blue water against a light blue sky was tantalizing.Editing
Being new to DSLR photography, I was shooting in Automatic mode and in JPG. I therefore accomplished light post-processing using the free Photoscape X software. I adjusted the contrast and increased sharpness to achieve my visual goals. In my camera bag
I always have extra batteries, extra memory cards, a tripod and a monopod.Feedback
Always use a tripod or monopod to minimize blurriness. Take advantage of any natural sunlight being offered at the time. Weather will be a primary challenge in outdoor photography.
