Been trying to snap a photo to capture the mineral deposits in the the top of this guitar.
The top is ~350 year old Redwood. Called "Sinker Redwood", it was harvested from trees cut down 100 years ago. During the journey from the cut down the river to the mill many logs would crowd together and push on top of one another causing some to "sink" low enough to get stuck in the silt at the bottom of the river. The minerals in the silt leached into the logs over time. Fast fowards 100 years or so and the logs have been dislodged and salvaged. Taylor purchased one of these logs and built many guitar tops from the same log. It is hard to get and becoming harder every year. The striations and variations in the color of this guitar are the leftover mineral deposits. In this picture it is possible to see the sparkle of Pyrite, or "fools gold" in the wood!
