Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on Ka'anapali Beach in Maui. I went down to the beach to simply enjoy a sunset walk and was awestruck by the beauty. I am a self taught photographer and this was a fantastic insight into the beauty the sky can possess.

Time

It was a warm evening in Maui and I decided that I wanted to go for a stroll down the beach. The breeze was just enough so that it wasn't scorching hot. It was perfect. I sat on the sand as the waves crashed onto the shore and as I raised my camera and captured the sunset I knew it would be one of my favorite photos.

Lighting

The sunset started off gorgeous. But I knew that if I waited until just the right second, I could get the perfect picture that would capture the viewer in a daydream. I waited till it was darker and snapped the perfect shot and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon Coolpix L840

Inspiration

I wanted to capture Hawaiian sunset perfectly and convey to the viewer the importance of living in the moment.

Editing

I did no editing. This image is just a raw and authentic Hawaiian sunset that I was lucky enough to be there for. I feel blessed to have been granted such an opportunity.

In my camera bag

I always carry extra batteries, a compass in case I get lost (as us artists generally have our head stuck in the clouds) and of course my Nikon L840 my first and only real camera that I treat like my firstborn child.

Feedback

Be calm. If you don't get it right the first time don't worry. Don't get frustrated of the perfect shot evades you. If it's meant to be you'll get it. And trust me, you'll know when you've got it.
