Behind The Lens

Location

I took the photo in my home office, on the floor.

Time

This photo was taken 3 June 2013, 2:35pm.

Lighting

A little trial and error with the flash position and power settings, with the camera in full manual, was required. I found trying to use automatic exposure settings didn't work too well. Using the flash in close proximity to the dog, I didn't worry about the ambient light.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 600D using an EF 24-105 f/4L IS. Canon 400EX II, off camera with a cheap wireless trigger i found on eBay.

Inspiration

I took advantage of an opportunity which presented itself. It took almost an hour of running around the backyard to tire her out before she would settle enough to allow me to take the photo. The scruffy, unkempt look works well for her.

Editing

Basic post-processing for exposure, black point, and a little colour correction.

In my camera bag

These days my camera of choice is the Canon 6D, in no small part because it's the only digital SLR I have, and I usually pack the EF 24-105 f/4L IS. Depending on where I'm going, and what I'll be doing, I take other lenses from wide to long telephoto, or macro. Most are from Canon.

Feedback

Animals are as unique as people are - each is different, and you need to build a rapport with them.
