Such a gorgeous masterpiece! I love the composition, the lighting on the bridge, the smoothness of the water, and the color of the sunrise. The extra effort getting up early was definitely worth it! Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo of the city skyline of Rotterdam in The Netherlands. It is a location I live nearby and it's the view is amazing from all kinds of different creative angles.

Time

I always wanted to take a photo from this view point on an early summer morning because that is the time of the year that the sun rises from the East. I took some effort by getting out of bed at 04:00am in the morning but was I happy I did. Most of the times it really is a bust but that doesn't stop me from trying, in this case the perfect golden color of the sun reflected onto the bridge as it was just popping over the horizon and as an extra bonus the movement of the clouds which also give an amazing atmosphere to the image.

Lighting

In this case the sun was the only light source in the picture, I usually take sunrise or sunset photos with the sun in the frame but as I said before this is am image I already planned a while ago and I knew exactly how I wanted it to be.

Equipment

Is shot this image with the Sony A7 in combination with the 28mm f/2 Sony Prime Lens including a Hoya 9 stops ND filter in front of the lens. This combination was supported by my Rollei FotoPro C5i Tripod.

Inspiration

This whole city is my inspiration, the skyline changes constantly and obviously so do the pictures ;-) At them moment 2 new building are being build but I was lucky in this case no heavy construction equipment were in the frame.

Editing

I do al my standard post processing in Adobe Lightroom and some color enhancements in Photoshop in combination with the wonderful plugin from the Nik collection. Finish it of with some noise reduction and sharpening and the image is born.

In my camera bag

My bag contains the following equipment: Sony A7, Zeiss Batis 18mm f/2.8, Sony 28mm f/2, Sony Zeiss 55m f/1.8, Sony G 70-200mm f/4, Rollei FotoPro C5i tripod, a bunch of Hoya ND filters, Remote shutter release, microfiber cleaning cloths, freezer bags to protect my gear from the rain if necessary, sensor cleaning kit.

Feedback

If you would like to get in to long exposure photography it is essential to get a sturdy tripod because you don't want to your camera te move when your taking a photo. Also a remote shutter release might come in handy to also reduce camera shake. If you want to make long exposures during daytime you might want to consider to get yourself some good ND filters to block a large amount of the light coming into the lens, this way can decrease the shutter speed to get the right exposure. I would advise not to use variable ND filters for long exposure photography as they produce some strange triangle artifacts in you image. Also I always disable the image stabilization on the lens the get razor sharp photos.
