Behind The Lens

Location

My spouse and I went to the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens in Sanford, FL, and he was a free exhibit, not behind any cage or in any enclosure, just a squirrel hanging out on a fence, and he was watching me. So I took his picture.

Time

We went when the zoo was opening up, around 9am, the animals were hardly out, but the natural wildlife was, like him. It was a nice sunny morning.

Lighting

He stood out in the natural sunlight of Florida and the sun was behind him highlighting his fur giving him this look.

Equipment

I used my spouse's camera. A Canon EOS Rebel T3. Aperture f/8 ISO 1600 Shutter 1/500 Focal Length 300/1 no tripod or flash.

Inspiration

I love nature, it's wildlife is so beautiful. He was following me stopping on every post of the fence, till at the right moment he posed, and I snapped this photo

Editing

Nothing special was done to take photo, I shot on auto that day, just let the camera do it's thing. If it were my camera I may have still shot in auto, because I would have been there all day fiddling with settings.

In my camera bag

In my camera bag, well, there is my camera of course, cheat sheets, lenses, extra batteries, extra sd cards, flash, notepad and pen, cleaning stuff, and snacks.

Feedback

I am not a professional, all I can say is practice practice practice, and have cheat sheets handy. For these kinds of shots in this kind of setting, best to just shoot on auto, but keep your lens on manual focus, sometimes auto doesn't focus right, and you need this kind of shot in focus. Good Luck
