Location
This photo was taken in Royal Oak, Maryland. It's an old church that is called Royal Oak Church. It is now being used for storage.Time
The pic was taken around 3-3:30 pm in the afternoon.Lighting
I would have liked to have been able to take the picture without the sun in my face, however as we had just happened upon it, I wasn't really worried about the lighting. I just wanted to capture the look of abandonment of the church. It must have been a beautiful church in it's heyday, as the windows are still gorgeous.Equipment
I used a Canon SX40HS with no flash and I only had a skylight filter on the lens. I usually use the filter as protection for the camera lens.Inspiration
I love to take pictures of old buildings and churches turn out to be the prettiest for me.Editing
The only thing I did was had to lighten the pic up a little bit, as I was shooting into the sun. You can see that by the sun flare. In my camera bag
I usually have my two cameras both are Canons, an SX40HS and an old Powershot A75. I have my filters, sun shade, extra battery, and cleaning supplies. I like to have all my equipment, because you never know when one might break. And since I have extra lenses for the A75, I can get more zoom with the old one too.Feedback
I know that it may not be a great shot by some standards, but it was from a different perspective and I think the sun flare gives it a more mysterious look. This was not a planned shot as my husband and I were out sightseeing after eating a meal at a local restaurant. If I had it to do over again, I would probably plan the lighting a little better to get more color from the beautiful windows. The flare is a nice addition, but I would probably go to take a pic in the morning when the lighting is a little more forgiving.
