Location
This picture was taken in Fayettville, NC at an annual Lantern Fest.Time
The is by far one of my favorite photos I have ever taken. The time was when the sun had completely gone down so around 7:30pm or so. I remember the weather being really nice and peaceful.Lighting
So I made sure I focused on the light of the lanterns to make sure I was able to capture a sharp photo. So it was kinda tricky playing around with what available light i had. I felt as if I was in a time crunch because the lanterns were being released at a fast rate.Equipment
I took this photo with my NikonD800 with the Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 lens.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this photograph because I wanted to capture a feeling and emotion. The feeling I wanted to capture was releasing your wishes to the universe and to try and photograph that feeling. So when we were given the lanterns, they told us to put a story on them. So a lot of people were putting messages on them wether it was about dreams, aspirations in life, messages to passed relatives...ect. I wanted to capture all of that. The person in the photo was a friend of mine and on her lantern she put everything that she wanted to accomplish in the upcoming year. For her it was like a release and a affirmation she wanted to put for herself. That is what I wanted to capture.Editing
The post-processing editing was just kinda playing around with the exposure, hightlights, the colors a bit, clarity, and vibrance. I edited this photo in Lightroom. I also wanted to edit the photo lightly to capture its rawness. In my camera bag
My go to camera/lens nowadays in the Nikon D810 and the Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 because the lens can do so much. I can take landscapes with it and also portraits. Also, I like packing light so just having those two things in my bag are enough for me.Feedback
I think some advice would be to play around what available light you have, try focusing your lens on something bright. To take this photo I had to adjust the F stop to 2.8 to get that crisp quality because there was little light when this photo was taken. I also adjusted the shutter speed where I was able to capture the movement of the lanterns so it wouldn't come out o blurry and the ISO so it wouldn't be so grainy. Also plan ahead, get an idea of what kind of shots are you wanting to get. A big one is to enjoy the moment and don't freak out trying to capture the perfect photo.
