Behind The Lens

Location

I took this from my Floridian back porch looking out onto the garden.

Time

I believe it was early morning. The birds loves to flock to the feeders and birdbath early each morning. Who wouldn’t want a free breakfast and spa?

Lighting

The lighting was poor which is partly why I chose to single out my jay as the only thing with color. Super early mornings can have bad contrast issues.

Equipment

I used my cannon t2i and the original lens it came with. Nothing special so you can get this, too.

Inspiration

This jay was particularly interesting as it has some tail feathers missing but was a little bit more bright blue than the rest. He seemed to have a story to tell.

Editing

All I did was select the jay and keep his color and make the rest black and white in photoshop. I hardly ever edit my photos so this is a rare thing.

In my camera bag

I generally keep my cannon t2i, a macro lens, a zoom lens, an extra battery, and a simple point and shoot in my bag.

Feedback

Keep it simple. Don’t go for the big purchase right away. Start out with the simple lens and camera and get great with those and then when you get better lenses things will be popping!
