This Rat Snake, common in northeast Texas, is about 6 feet long and was taken on a cloudy day. They eat mainly rodents, bird eggs (they love to sneak into chicken coops). If disturbed, one may shake its tail to make fallen leaves rattle and can mimic a rattlesnake.
