Location
This Photo was taken in "Grassi Lakes trail" in Canmore, an amazing little town located in the Canadian Rockies. This is about a 45 minute drive from the city of Calgary. It is very close to the well known national park "Banff" in the amazing province of Alberta, canada.Time
This is one of my favorites images from this trip. It was about 10 am, but at this time in the year it starts getting a little cold in the morning resulting in more clouds covering partially the sky evenly scattering the light. since it is cold not many go on the trail i remember this allowed me to enjoy the peaceful sound of the water passing under me while i set up my shot and took it all in. This was taken on the last week of September 2015.Lighting
The diffusion of the sunlight created a smooth balanced lighting allowing for minimal loss of detail without stealing from the contrasting yellows blues and greens. I really didn't want any of the colors to be lost nor overpower each other, it is truly a ballet of colors at this time of year and i didn't want that feeling to be lost.Equipment
This was shot with a canon 6D with a 17-40mm Wide angle lens. I had a tripod but having sufficient light, allowed me to take this picture without the use of one. I would like to add that having gloves helped tremendously as my fingers didn't feel like they were going to fall off.Inspiration
It is not hard to create beautiful pictures living so close to these majestic mountains, nor is it hard to find inspiration but sometimes in trails that are popular it is hard to find the much needed peace in quite that we all seek. The inspiration came from finding a small moment of peace in such a busy place. It is a celebration of the small joys that we loose sight of in our day by day. It was the perfect intimate moment between the surrounding natural beauty and myself.Editing
A simple color correction to bring out all the colors in the trees the lake and the reflections. I wanted the reflections to stand out so a splash of contrast would do the trick. In my camera bag
Before every trip I always reach for my trusty 17-40mm canon lens, I also carry with me a 35 sigma art lens in case the portrait bug strikes. A nice sturdy tripod and a variable ND filter is a must followed by my wonderful battle proof Canon 6D body. Depending on the situation i will also bring a Manfrotto Panoramic Head but only when a lot of hiking is not in the plans, it sure is heavy but i love shooting with it.Feedback
Anyone that lives near the Canadian Rockies will tell you that it is not abnormal to have all the season in one day. My advice for any Landscape Photographer taking pictures in the wonderful province of Alberta here in Canada would be patience, take a shot wait for 5 minutes and the second time around it might be a completely different picture. Do Not be afraid to get your feet wet figuratively and literally. The truth of the matter is have fun be proud of every picture you take as they are a part of you, you are sharing with the world.
