Location
This photo was taken at the California mid state fair in Paso Robles.Time
This photo was taken towards the end of the rodeo when it was pretty dark outside.Lighting
I wanted to give this image a rustic flare with the reddish color instead of black and white. The original photo was pretty dark so I did have to work with it quite a bit to lighten without distortionEquipment
I shot this photo with a Canon 60D. No flash and the setting was the action setting.Inspiration
I love rodeos, I can spend all day shooting with cattle and horses.Editing
For this photo I used the "rust" lightroom preset. Also there was alot of lighting issues because I didn't use a flash at all. I had to use the brush tool in lightroom to adjust area by area.In my camera bag
I have 6 cameras. A Canon t1i, canon 60d, a Canon speedlight, a 1938 rollieflex, a diana, and a regular old point and shoot.Feedback
I really to read other photographers blogs and alot of the time they offer free presets which are easy to download and use. For all the beginners who want to get the looks but can't do it themselves, don't feel shame or less than anyone else. You just need to practice and play with your images. I like to use a laptop, when I am satisfied with what the photo looks like I can hook it up to my massive tv and see the trouble areas or other things I'd like to change. Stay persistent, stay strong and don't be too hard on yourself.
