Behind The Lens

Location

Winchester Rodeo, held in October 2013, at Winchester, South Canterbury New Zealand.

Time

Taken around midday.

Lighting

I was using a high shutter speed, as I was photographing the cowboys & cowgirls in action. This also helped to keep the glare down, as it was a bright sunny day.

Equipment

Nikon D3000 (my husband's hand-me-down!). Just the standard 50mm kit lens (I don't have any fancy gear).

Inspiration

I thought the cowboys looked good all lined up, waiting for their turn. To me. it told a story of anticipation.

Editing

I cropped the image, sharpened, lightened & darkened some areas, faded the colours slightly, then removed noise, which created a soft image, which I like.

In my camera bag

Honestly, just a spare battery, & a cleaning cloth! My husband has a backpack full of lenses, which I sometimes use when he's at work. When we go out together to take photos, the lenses are off limits to me, so use my know-how to get a good shot!

Feedback

I don't believe you need a really expensive camera or all the fancy gear to get a good image. You just need a good eye and a steady hand, and an imagination to be able to see a potential image that others won't necessarily see.
