I took this photo at my local park. This little duckling was one of about six newborn ducklings.Time
I took in springtime during the day. It was a sunny spring day.Lighting
I didn't need to use a flash as it was a bright day. The sun hit the little ducklings face when I took the shot.Equipment
I used a 100-400mm lens on a Canon 50d.Inspiration
I love photographing wildlife especially if it is cute and fluffy! I love seeing young animals, I think it's very special to see nature at this age. This cute little duckling was probably a few weeks old. I lay down to take this photo so that I was at eye level with him. He seemed very determined when he went on his walk. Hopefully I captured his character in this photo.Editing
Very little. Slightly adjusted contrast, brightness, shaprness and a crop.In my camera bag
Canon 50D and 100-400 lens, 50mm lens.Feedback
Always put the animal first. Stand back initially so as not to scare the animal. I even talk to the animal! For small animals or ones that are lying down, I lay down as well. Always try and be at the same level as your subject. That does sometimes mean being on your tummy and stretched out! or standing on something! Try and get the animal as sharp as you can when you take the photo and if possible try and have as little distraction in the background. I would have liked this image more if there had been a shallower depth of field in the background so that the duckling was the main focus of attention. But it did show him in his own environment. Love what you are photographing as i think that will show in the image. I really love wildlife and hope that this shows. I focused on his eyes and I think that is important. The glint in the eye makes the image more alive!
