Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot on a rooftop back home in Norfolk, Virginia.

Time

Hm, I'd say just the afternoon

Lighting

The lighting looked great up there although there were plenty of trees. This photo was shot wit a slow settle rain just after it poured down. Most of the time you'd expect to have dark skies when you have pouring rain, but it was actually still bright and I really want to bring the contrast of her skin out.

Equipment

This photo was shot with a canon, and I believe my 24-105L.

Inspiration

Ahh, honestly I've never done a rain shoot, and the subject is an excellent model. Even into this day, every time it rains, we also bring up the thought of that shoot. Which of coure as you see on the photo, it's not archived in Vogue Italia. This happened to become my first photo accepted in Vogue.

Editing

I shot this in color, converted it into a black and white photograph. I wanted the contrast and rain drops to really pop! I love texture!! And a small bit of sharpening and clarity to enhance it all completely.

In my camera bag

Well, after shooting this photo over two years ago, now I work with Canon, Sony, and Fuji. I just go with what I feel will be best to get the job done. Surprisingly, lately I've been doing all of my work with Fuji. Very compact!

Feedback

Just go with your instincts. Sometimes capturing the best photos are the least expected photos with a planned idea. keep that camera on you, and shoot at ANY TIME!
