Location
This photo was taken at Blydenburgh Lake in Blydenburgh Park, Smithtown, New York.Time
Later afternoon, probably around 4:00 p.m.Lighting
The low angle of the late afternoon sun created beautiful and intriguing lighting conditions. The light reflecting off the surface of the water made it look like silk.Equipment
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18. No tripod, no flash, no special lenses.Inspiration
The duck, of course! She was standing on a submerged log, but at first glance she appeared to be walking on water. I had to wait a while for her to turn her head just the right way, though.Editing
I did some cropping of the image. There was another duck (a male) off to the right, but I wanted to make this duck the focal point. It's been a while, but I think I turned the saturation up just a tiny bit, and tweaked the contrast. In my camera bag
I usually just have my camera around my neck. If I do have a bag with me, it has the camera charger, and a fisheye lens. I don't have of lot of accessories at this point.Feedback
You don't need a lot of fancy equipment at first. Just take whatever you already have and get out there and shoot. You never know when you'll capture something wonderful!
