Location
This image was captured in Duck, North Carolina at the Sanderling Inn Resort's boat ramp which is located on the Currituck Sound.Time
This is an early evening, late afternoon sunset picture. I arrived quite a bit before sunset to check things out and plan different compositions I'd imagined earlier in the week. Several didn't pan out and the actual boat ramp was the obvious choice for strong foreground as other objects were either not compelling or were covered up in other people who showed up to watch the sunset.Lighting
Mother nature did the heavy lifting as she always does! The clouds did not move in until the very last gasps of the sunset were dwindling. With the golden-orange glow reflecting off the water, the boards of the dock were just not doing it for me, they were sort of washed out and becoming more dark as the light faded. My first attempts at enhancing their appearance involved light painting, that didn't quite work out until I added a gel that enabled me to match the sunset colors pretty well.Equipment

I love sunsets and especially a good OBX sunset! Duck is a special place to my family and I and whenever I can I really enjoy doing the area justice with my photography which I feel that this image accomplished quite nicely!Editing
There is very little post processing here. I cropped to removed uninteresting portions of the capture and to give it more of a pano feel. Slight adjustments to contrast, highlights and shadows with a little sharpening as well.In my camera bag

Timing and location!! The challenge in this one is the light painting - I'm not great at making it look even and natural, so practicing as much as possible would be beneficial!
