Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken in a naturally lit studio in Wollongong with model Bec Norris.

Time

Mid to late afternoon on a nice summers day.

Lighting

Natural lighting with gold reflector and fill flash to minimise harsh shadows.

Equipment

Captured with the canon 40D & L series 100ml, F2.8 lens on a tripod in raw.

Inspiration

We were playing around with different poses and when Bec did the Raaaw I’m a tiger I knew the fire would make an awesome image.

Editing

The raw image was post processed & colour corrected in photoshop before adding the fire image as an overlay blend layer that’s been masked and Gaussian blurred then painted with soft brush at around 75% opacity to blend the two images into Bec’s Fire.

In my camera bag

Canon 5d mkII Tripod with ball head 420 EX Flash Remote shutter F4 L series 24-105mm canon lens Tamron F2.8, 28-75 mm lens Canon power shot G7X Mark II

Feedback

Don’t be afraid to experiment with layers and mixing blending modes. As long as you keep the original as the background layer and use a new layer for each different effect that way you can always revert back to the original if you make a big mistake.
